Ever found yourself wanting to make a big change in your home without spending a fortune? Well, that’s exactly how I felt when I decided to update my Bathroom tiles. But instead of splurging on a brand-new set, I decided to get a little creative – and the results were nothing short of amazing!

Ever found yourself wanting to make a big change in your home without spending a fortune? Well, that’s exactly how I felt when I decided to update my bathroom tiles. But instead of splurging on a brand-new set, I decided to get a little creative – and the results were nothing short of amazing!

The inspiration came from my recent travels to Malta and Italy, where I fell in love with the colorful, intricate designs of the tiles in almost every home I visited. I couldn’t get over how these beautiful patterns transformed the space, and I thought, “Why not bring this vibe into my own little apartment?”

So, I took a deep breath, grabbed a few supplies from Michael’s, and set off on a DIY adventure. Trust me, it was easier than I thought! If you’re ready to give your kitchen a budget-friendly makeover, here’s how I created the most incredible tiled look with just a few simple steps.

What You’ll Need:

Tile Stencils from Amazon or any craft store) https://amzn.to/4gumX8H
Paint Brushes (foam or fine-tipped depending on the design https://amzn.to/40Fvujm
Paint (choose a durable paint for tiles –I went with acrylic, but latex is perfect too, and I used two colours)
Topcoat I used clear High shine Polycrylic from Minwax https://amzn.to/4hMc9Um
Painters Tape (for clean edges) Home Depot
Place tap around the stencil securing in place in the direction you want.
Step 1: Clean Your Tiles
Before you get started, make sure your tiles are squeaky clean. Wipe them down to remove any dust, grease, or grime. This ensures your paint sticks and lasts.

Step 2: Apply the Stencil
I bought a few tile stencils from Michael’s, which made the process so much easier. I chose designs inspired by the vibrant tiles I saw in Italy and Malta.
To apply the stencil, use painters tape to secure the stencil to the tile, making sure it’s perfectly aligned. You don’t want it shifting while you paint.

Step 3: Paint Your Design
Now for the fun part! Using a foam brush or fine-tipped paintbrush, carefully paint over the stencil. You might need to apply a couple of coats, depending on the color of the paint and the tile’s original color. Be sure to let each layer dry before moving on to the next.

Step 4: Let the Design Dry
Patience is key here. Once you’ve painted your tiles, let them dry completely. This will ensure the design stays intact and crisp.

Step 5: Seal It with a Topcoat
To make sure your gorgeous new tiles are protected from wear and tear, finish off with a topcoat. This step adds a shiny, durable layer that’ll keep your design looking fresh for months to come.

Step 6: Admire Your Work
Once everything’s dry and sealed, step back and admire your new, colorful kitchen tiles. What once was a plain, ordinary space is now a vibrant showcase of your creativity and travel-inspired design!

Why I Love This DIY Project
Not only did I save a ton of money, but I also added a personal touch to my home that reflects the places I’ve visited. The transformation is incredible, and every time I walk into my kitchen, I’m reminded of those beautiful Mediterranean tiles.
